Team Filly & Trojan Grit
Team Filly and Trojan Grit are 6-week summer programs provided free of charge to NCHS and KWHS female athletes respectively. Utilizing certification through Sportsmetrics, NRT physical therapists provide instruction and functional strength training in a progressive format for ACL and injury prevention. Sportsmetics, a research-based program, has been proven to reduce the incident of non-contact ACL injuries and enhance sports performance.
This program was started in 2019, when three girls tore their ACLs during the NCHS basketball season. Concern from coaches, PE instructors and parents lead to conversations with Nancy, who was certified in Sportsmetrics and had been rehabbing ACL injuries for 20 years. It has become part of the high schools’ summer program, and the PE departments have implemented many of the concepts into their curriculum. Since that time, non-contact ACL injuries have been reduced significantly in those athletes participating in the program.
This partnership reinforced mechanics and exercises to help prevent injuries. As the head track coach, it was great seeing my athletes put in time during the off season and prepare them for indoor and outdoor track.
All this hard work will help them be successful and safe as they compete. The summer program was a huge success and will make our girls’ programs better. We appreciate all the guidance and support from Nancy and her therapists.
